Common Invisalign Questions

Invisalign Clear Aligners

There are multiple options for orthodontic patients who want to avoid metal braces! The most popular alternative orthodontic treatment is Invisalign®, a transparent plastic aligner designed to straighten teeth. After examining your teeth, Dr. Joseph Ayoub will determine which option best suits your wants and needs.

Is Invisalign® Expensive?

According to the Invisalign® website, the cost of this orthodontic treatment is approximately the same as that of traditional metal braces. Call and check with your dental insurance provider because they may cover a portion of this cost. Please call us at dentistry by design to schedule a consultation and discuss potential payment plan options.

How Do Invisalign® Clear Aligners Work?

The first step is to call dentistry by design and schedule a consultation with dr. Ayoub, so we can design a custom dental treatment plan that suits your individual dental needs. Once approved, you will receive your initial set of aligners. Dr. Ayoub will then regularly monitor the movement of your teeth and order new aligners according to the progress made in your personalized treatment plan.

What Are Invisalign® Aligners Made Of?

The manufacturers make Invisalign® orthodontic aligners of clear, flexible plastic. The company received a patent for this unique material – SmartTrack® – to be used only for Invisalign treatment. These aligners are FDA-approved and nearly invisible!

How Long Does Invisalign® Treatment Take?

Depending on the patient’s specific dental needs, dr. Ayoub will estimate how long your Invisalign® treatment should take. The average time for orthodontic aligner treatment is approximately 12-18 months. However, some orthodontic patients may see results far sooner. Remember to wear your aligners precisely as instructed by dr. Ayoub to obtain the best results.

Are Invisalign® Results Permanent?

Dr. Ayoub will most likely recommend wearing retainers following your Invisalign® treatment. This precaution will prevent your teeth from shifting back to their original positioning. Following your doctor’s instructions is essential to ensure long-lasting results.

How Often Must I Wear My Clear Aligners?

You must wear your Invisalign® aligners for up to 22 hours daily. After that, you may only remove them for eating, drinking, and oral hygiene.

What Are The Limitations Or Restrictions On What I Can Eat While In Treatment?

Unlike traditional braces, you can eat whatever food you like if you remove the aligners before eating. However, brushing your teeth and the aligners after you eat is essential before placing the aligners back on.

Will Wearing The Aligners Affect My Speech?

Like any orthodontic treatment, there is a short adjustment period. However, the more you speak with the aligners, the quicker you adjust.

Is There Any Discomfort with Invisalign® Treatment?

After each initial insertion, some pressure and minor discomfort will occur for a few days. This pressure signifies that your teeth are moving sequentially into their final position.

Can I Chew Gum?

We highly recommend removing your aligners before chewing gum, as the gum may stick to the aligners.

Can I Smoke With My Aligners?

Dr. Ayoub discourages smoking with aligners as cigarette smoke tends to discolor them.

How Do I Keep My Aligners Clean?

You can keep your Invisalign® aligners fresh and clean by brushing them with toothpaste daily.

How Often Do I See An Orthodontist While Wearing Invisalign® Clear Aligners?

Regular dentistry by design office visits is every five to six weeks. Regular office visits will ensure that your Invisalign treatment is progressing as planned.

What Happens After My Treatment Is Complete? Do I Need Retainers?

We instruct all orthodontic patients to wear their retainers every night. Sleeping with your retainers every night will ensure you maintain a healthy bite and the new position of your teeth.

How Long Does Invisalign® Clear Aligners Treatment Take?

Your dental treatment time will vary depending on the severity of the misaligned teeth. Treatment time can be shorter than conventional metal braces, between six and 18 months.

Does Invisalign Work For Kids?
